Mitt Romney: What does he really stand for?

Mitt Romney, the current nominee of the Republican Party for the 2012 presidential election, was the governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. Back then, he supported abortion, gun control, undertaking climate change and a required health insurance for everyone. Now, as the Republican Party’s nomination for president, he opposes all those things.  A year ago he favored keeping income taxes at their current level but now he wants to cut them for everybody, with the rate falling from 35% to 28% for the wealthy Americans. So the question on everyone’s mind is: what does he really stand for? All politicians go back and forth from time to time but no one changed their ideals that much like Romney did. Instead of seeing him as a strong executive, I see him as a man willing to do anything to get elected. He has committed himself to courses that he may not even believe in.  In theory, he has a detailed 59 point economic plan but in practice it is virtually vague and contradictory. I find it difficult to understand what his primary object really is. He wants to bring down the deficit and lower the tax rates. But the question is how? How can he lower tax rates without losing tax revenues? On the spending side, he wants to boost the defense spending. Which leads to the question: what is he going to cut in order to do that?
